Shopify has extended Managed Markets, its cross-border selling service, to eligible stores in Canada. Retail Insider reported the rollout on 19 August 2026 and described Canada as an early-access market. This post was published on 30 October 2026.

      What Managed Markets does

With Managed Markets, a store can sell to customers in other countries without registering a business, registering for tax or arranging customs clearance in each destination, according to Shopify's help page. Global-e is the merchant of record. Shopify says it handles tax registration and remittance, duties and import taxes, customs compliance, local payment methods, commercial invoices and carrier arrangements. The store owner still runs the store and the products. Retail Insider reports that for Canadian transactions Global-e Canada E-Commerce Ltd. acts as the merchant of record and exporter of record.

      Who qualifies in Canada

      • A Canadian business with a qualifying Canadian location and fulfillment setup.
      • Use of Shopify Payments and a supported Shopify tax configuration.
      • International subscriptions and Shopify B2B transactions are not currently supported.
      • Managed Markets is available only to certain eligible stores, not to every Canadian merchant.

What Shopify's help page says about cost and limits

The help page lists a transaction fee of 3.5 percent for the Basic, Grow and Advanced plans and 3.25 percent for Shopify Plus, in addition to currency conversion and payment processing fees. The store needs to be on the Basic plan or higher and use Shopify Payments, and it cannot use Managed Markets and the standalone Global-e app at the same time. A Global-e disclaimer appears at checkout. Fees and terms can change, so read the current page before you decide.

What it means for your store

      • If your business is in Canada, ask whether your store is eligible, and compare the fee with what you pay now to handle duties, tax and customs yourself.
      • If your business is in the United States or the United Kingdom, Shopify's help page lists the service as available to businesses based in the continental United States and to certain stores in Canada and the United Kingdom.
      • If your business is elsewhere, including the Middle East, the help page does not list your location. Plan to handle duty and tax yourself. Our guide Selling from the Middle East to the UK, Europe, the US and Canada explains how.
      • To see how one store can serve several countries with local currencies and languages, read Shopify Markets: how to sell in several countries from one store.
